Problems opening joke emails……

We are often asked why can’t I open a joke attachment that I have been sent by email. The most likely cause it that you do not have powerpoint installed. If the file ends with pps then you can either buy a copy of Microsoft office (make sure the version contains powerpoint!) or download Sun Open Office for free! simply go to www.openoffice.org and click download.

Problem with Windows Updates

When I click on the update of Windows the following eror appears
ERrror Code 80070002 – when I close down my Advent computer it tells me that updates are being configured, then immediately switches off – when I open my computer – which is taking a long time to open, it tells me that stage 3 0f 3 configuration not complete and then lets me sign in right away – so at this moment of time I cannot use Windows update, or remove three updates which are showing PENDING- Can someone help me please – I am using Vista programme

Iphone software 3.0

Keep an eye on the news this week as Apple will be giving a sneak peek on Tuesday of the new version of the iPhone’s operating system, iPhone Software 3.0. Rumor has it that it will include cut & paste and laptop/PC tethering for Internet access.

Windows 7

We are currently running a beta copy of Windows 7 on one of our computers and first impressions are good. We have Vista installed on the same computer and Windows 7 out performs Vista. The whole operating system looks and feels Vista but it doesn’t suffer the slow downs are constant bombardment of questions! Lets hope Microsoft sort update issues with the new version 7!

Speed Up Vista with Ready Boost

If you are using Windows Vista and have less than 1GB of system memory then you can plug a pen drive otherwise known as usb memory stick into a free USB port and use something called ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost allows Windows Vista to use your usb pen drive as extra cache memory, which allows programs to load faster and gives your PC a performance boost. Before you rush to use your old memory stick is should be noted that only certain pen drives are capable of performing this task as there is a minimum read – write speed required.

The minimum specification for a pen drive to be able to work with Windows Vista is at least 256MB of free space, be able to read at 2.5MB/sec and write at 1.75MBsec, any good computer shop should be able to give you the specification before buying.

Enable readyboost from the autoplay menu.

Vista Updates

When updating Windows Vista it is recommended that you have latest drivers installed on your system, especially if you are installing Vista service pack 1.

We are currently dealing with an increasing number of computers that fail to load after automatic updates.

You can check your drivers by going to your computer manufacturers website or call in the experts!

Outlook 2007 & Kaspersky

If you use Kaspersky Internet security 2009 and Outlook 2007 then check the version of Kaspersky you are using. To do this hover your mouse over the red Kaspersky icon in the bottom left hand corner of your screen. Check the version number it should be 8.0.0.506 or above, anything lower can cause Outlook 2007 to crash. You can update your Kaspersky free on their website. It will not update itself!
